India Launches Awiqli: World’s First Once-Weekly Insulin Revolutionizes Diabetes Care

SEO Headline: In a significant milestone for diabetes management, Denmark-based pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk has launched 'Awiqli' (Insulin Icodec) in India, marking the introduction of the world's first once-weekly basal insulin. This breakthrough offers a highly convenient alternative for patients who previously had to endure daily insulin injections.

Until now, patients requiring basal insulin had to administer injections every single day. With the introduction of Awiqli, just one injection per week is sufficient, drastically reducing the annual burden from 365 injections to just 52. This massive reduction makes it much easier for patients to strictly adhere to their treatment plans while significantly lowering the daily psychological stress and anxiety associated with frequent needle pricks.

The medication is approved for adults living with both Type-1 and Type-2 diabetes. However, health experts emphasize that it must be used strictly under a doctor’s guidance and supervision, as altering any insulin regimen without medical consultation can pose serious health risks.

Accessibility is another major highlight, as Awiqli is priced at an affordable ₹261 per week in India, making it cheaper than many existing daily insulins currently available in the market. This cost-effectiveness, combined with the once-a-week convenience, is expected to encourage patients who previously avoided insulin therapy due to fear of daily injections to successfully transition to this treatment.

While Awiqli opens a revolutionary new chapter in diabetes care, medical experts caution that it may not be suitable for everyone. The choice to switch to this weekly insulin must be determined on an individual basis, depending entirely on the patient's specific health condition, the type of diabetes they have, and a thorough medical evaluation by a physician.
