Following a surge in Covid-19 cases in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, health authorities have intensified screening and set up checkposts along the border in Pavagada taluk of Tumakuru district. The sudden spike in infections across the border has triggered concern in Karnataka, especially after two suspected Covid-related deaths and over nine positive cases were reported in Andhra Pradesh.
Acting on the directives of the Tumakuru District Commissioner, health officials have deployed teams to monitor the border entry points and prevent the virus from spreading into the state. Vehicles entering Pavagada from Andhra Pradesh are being intercepted, and commuters are undergoing mandatory health screenings, with a primary focus on detecting symptoms like fever.
While the screening process is actively underway at the Rajavantige entry point, health personnel have also set up similar inspection desks at five other major border locations. Officials are recording thermal readings of all travellers and collecting data regarding their travel history and health status. Individuals exhibiting fever symptoms are being provided with immediate first aid and are being referred to the Pavagada General Hospital for further medical evaluation if necessary. Health workers on the ground have urged the public and travellers to cooperate with the authorities to ensure effective screening and containment.
