Karnataka Electoral Roll Revision 2026: Schedule, Eligibility, and Registration Process Announced

BENGALURU: The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Karnataka has officially announced the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) program for the 2026 electoral roll. Aimed at strengthening the democratic foundation, this special campaign offers an excellent opportunity for eligible citizens to verify their existing names in the voter list or register as new voters.

Key Dates for the Special Intensive Revision
The qualification date for this special revision process is set as October 1, 2026. The initial phase begins with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) conducting door-to-door visits across the state from June 30, 2026, to July 29, 2026. Following this, the draft electoral roll will be officially published on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

  • The complete timeline for the revision process is structured as follows:
  • The qualifying date is October 1, 2026.
  • Door-to-door visits by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will run from June 30, 2026, to July 29, 2026.
  • The draft electoral roll will be published on August 5, 2026 (Wednesday).
  • Citizens can submit claims and objections from August 5, 2026, to September 4, 2026.
  • The issuance of notices and disposal of claims and objections will take place between August 5, 2026, and October 3, 2026.
  • The final electoral roll will be officially published on October 7, 2026.

Responsibilities of Booth Level Officers
During the month-long door-to-door campaign from June 30 to July 29, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will directly visit residences to distribute enumeration forms to all existing voters. These forms will be provided in duplicate, and officers will assist citizens in filling them out accurately. The officers will then collect the completed forms and issue an official acknowledgment receipt to the residents.

Voter Eligibility Criteria
In accordance with Article 326 of the Constitution of India, every eligible citizen holds the right to vote. Individuals intending to register must be citizens of India and must have completed a minimum of 18 years of age. Additionally, they must be ordinary residents of the respective assembly constituency and must not be disqualified under any law.

Methods to Verify Names in the Voter List
Citizens have multiple easy ways to verify whether their names are included in the electoral roll. They can physically check the voter list available with their local Booth Level Officer. Alternatively, they can leverage technology by using the ECINET mobile application or by visiting the official website of the Election Commission of India at voters.eci.gov.in. Verification can also be done via the official websites of the CEO Karnataka and the respective District Election Officer.

Required Application Forms for Various Updates
Different forms must be utilized depending on the required changes in the electoral roll. New voter registrations require Form 6, while non-resident or overseas Indian voters must use Form 6A. For deleting a name or filing objections against an entry, Form 7 is mandatory. Citizens looking to shift their residence, correct existing entries, replace their EPIC card, or mark themselves as a Person with Disability (PwD) must fill out Form 8.

Essential Supporting Documents
When submitting applications, a birth certificate issued by a competent authority, or educational certificates from SSLC or recognized boards can be provided as proof of age. For proof of residence and identity, applicants can use identity cards issued by the Central or State Government and Public Sector Undertakings, pension payment orders, or bank and post office documents.

Additionally, permanent resident certificates, OBC, SC, ST or any caste certificates, forest rights certificates, family registers, or land allotment certificates issued by national competent authorities are acceptable. The guidelines of the Election Commission of India will apply regarding the usage of Aadhaar cards.

Appeals and Contact Information
Under Section 24 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, citizens dissatisfied with any decision made by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) have the legal provision to file an appeal before the District Magistrate or the District Election Officer. For further information and assistance, the public can contact the toll-free helpline number 1950.
