The Karnataka government has delivered welcome news to state transport employees by officially issuing an order to increase their salaries. Effective from the July 2026 payroll, the basic pay for personnel across KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC, and KKRTC has been hiked by 12.5%. This revision will be calculated based on the basic salary drawn as of March 31, 2025. The move is set to benefit approximately 1.05 lakh employees, resulting in an additional monthly financial burden of ₹72.80 crore for the state exchequer.
This salary revision encompasses all categories of staff within the state transport corporations, including drivers, conductors, and administrative officials. In addition to the monthly hike, the government has already released the first installment of the retroactive pay arrears due to the employees. Transport department officials have confirmed that the remaining arrears will be disbursed in a phased manner over the coming months. With the revised structure coming into effect for the July cycle, employees will see the increased salaries credited directly to their accounts this month.
The decision comes after transport workers spent several months staging protests and strikes through various unions and federations to press for their demands. The government ultimately conceded to the pressure, approving this major wage revision. This follows a similar historical precedent set during Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's previous tenure, when Ramalinga Reddy served as the Transport Minister and had similarly ordered a salary hike for transport personnel.
