Karwar: The Tahsildar offices in Bhatkal and Karwar cities in Uttara Kannada district received a bomb threat via email on Tuesday.
The First the message was received at Bhatkal Tahashildar office and shortly after that a similar message was sent to the Karwar Tahsildar office on Tuesday morning Authorities believe both threats are false alarms, but police have launched an investigation.
The email sent to the Karwar office was identical to the one received by the Bhatkal Tahsildar office earlier the same day. Officials described the content as appearing fabricated at first glance, likely intended to cause panic.
Karwar Tahsildar Nishcal Naronha promptly informed local police upon discovering the message. "Although it seems to be a hoax, we are treating it seriously and have alerted the authorities," a spokesperson for the office said.
Police suspect the emails may have been sent by an individual suffering from a mental health issue. An investigation is underway to trace the sender, with checks being conducted on other government offices in Uttara Kannada district to determine if similar threats were received.
This marks the second such incident in the district on the same day, raising concerns about targeted disruptions to government functions. Previously, the Bhatkal police station had received two bomb threat emails, leading to the arrest of suspects in an earlier case.
Authorities have questioned why government offices in Uttara Kannada continue to be singled out in these repeated hoax threats, amid a broader wave of similar false alarms affecting public institutions across Karnataka in recent weeks.

No explosives were found in searches conducted following the alerts, and normal operations have resumed at both offices. Police urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
Uttara Kannada Superintendent of Police Deepan M.N. addressed the media on Tuesday regarding recent bomb threat emails received at government offices in the district.
According to the SP, the Tahsildar office in Bhatkal received a bomb threat via email on Tuesday morning, prompting an immediate response from police teams. A similar threat email was sent to the Tahsildar office in Karwar on sameday.
In both incidents, police rushed to the locations, conducted thorough inspections with bomb detection squads, and found no suspicious materials or explosives.
Despite the threats appearing to be hoaxes, authorities remain on high alert. The SP urged the public to stay vigilant and immediately report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.
Deepan M.N. also referenced a similar bomb threat received by the Bhatkal police station in June earlier this year, noting that the accused in that case had been arrested.
