Sirsi: A major accident was narrowly averted in Sirsi after the wheel nuts and bolts of a moving bus came loose, creating a serious safety scare.
The incident occurred on Monday near Shivaji Chowk in Sirsi. The bus was reportedly travelling from Chandragutti to Sirsi when several wheel nuts and bolts came loose. More than 40 students, along with other passengers, were reportedly travelling on the bus at the time.
After the bolts came loose, the bus tire remained in position with only a single bolt holding it. The driver reportedly acted promptly and brought the bus to a stop, preventing what could have been a major accident.
Had the wheel completely detached, the bus could have lost control, potentially resulting in a serious accident. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
The authorities concerned are expected to investigate the incident and determine whether any maintenance or mechanical lapse was responsible.
The incident has also raised concerns over the safety of buses carrying large numbers of students. There are growing demands for strict and regular safety inspections of such buses to prevent similar incidents in the future.
