Murudeshwar: Police in Murudeshwar have arrested a man accused of creating a fake Facebook account and posting a defamatory video targeting Uttara Kannada District-in-Charge Minister Mankal Vaidya.
According to police sources, the incident dates back to May 29, 2025, when a complaint was filed by one Manjunath Naik, alleging that a Facebook account under the name “Teju Naik Honnavar” had shared obscene and derogatory comments about him. Based on his complaint, a case was registered.
Subsequently, on June 6, 2025, another complaint was lodged by Nagappa Naik, who informed the police that two fake Facebook accounts — “Teju Naik Honnavar” and “Vandana Poojari” — had posted a 1.29-minute-long defamatory video against Minister Mankal Vaidya. A second case was then registered.
During the course of investigation, police identified the accused as Purandara Manjunath Naik (37), a resident of Bailur Doddabalase village in Bhatkal taluk.
Murudeshwar police arrested Purandara Naik and seized two mobile phones used in the commission of the offence.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
