Bhatkal: Seven Arrested for Illegal Transport of Ration Rice

Karwar:  Bhatkal Rural Police have apprehended seven individuals caught illegally storing and transporting rice meant for the Public Distribution System (PDS) in Bhatkal Taluk.

Acting on a tip-off, a raid conducted under the leadership of CPI Manjunath Lingareddy, with support from Food Inspector Uday Talawar, led to the recovery of 228 bags containing 11,400 quintals of rice. The seized rice is estimated to be worth approximately ₹3,87,600.

The police also seized vehicles used in the illegal operation, including an Ashok Leyland lorry, a Maruti Omni, and an Ashok Leyland Dost.

The accused have been identified as Sameer Mugalihonda (Ganeshnagar), Mallikarjuna R. (Magadi, Ramanagara), Nitin H.N. (Hombegowdanahalli), Sabul Mugalihonda (Ganeshnagar), and the owners and drivers of the vehicles involved.

Food Inspector Uday Talawar has filed a complaint at the Bhatkal Rural Police Station, and a case has been registered, according to police sources.
