Honnavar, Uttara Kannada: A Bolero vehicle transporting hay was completely gutted in a fire after it rammed into an electric pole on the Salkod Janata Colony Road in Honnavar taluk on Monday. The incident resulted in an estimated loss of around ₹3.5 lakh.
According to sources, the accident occurred when the vehicle lost control and collided with an electric pole. Sparks generated from the snapped overhead power lines fell onto the hay loaded in the vehicle, triggering a fire within moments. The flames spread rapidly, leaving the Bolero engulfed in fire and eventually reducing it to ashes.
Fire and emergency services rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information and managed to bring the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby areas.
Fortunately, the driver and other occupants escaped unhurt, narrowly avoiding a major tragedy. However, mobile phones and important documents kept inside the vehicle were destroyed in the fire.
Local police have visited the spot and are conducting an investigation into the incident.
