By the News Observer Desk,
Karwar: A car overturned early Wednesday morning near Somnath ITI after hitting an improperly barricaded stretch of road, allegedly due to negligence by the National Highways Department. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and all occupants escaped unharmed.
The incident occurred on a section of the road opposite a local office near Somnath ITI, where repair work remains incomplete. Due to recent rains, loose stones had scattered across the road, prompting authorities to block the stretch. However, instead of installing proper warning signs or reflective barricades, officials had reportedly placed stones and debris directly across the road.
In the early hours, a doctor from Karwar traveling towards Davanagere failed to notice the obstruction in the darkness. The car ran over the stones, lost balance, and overturned.
Locals have strongly criticized the National Highways Department for what they describe as irresponsible and careless handling of the situation. They allege that the lack of proper signage and unsafe barricading directly led to the accident.
Residents have now demanded immediate action, urging authorities to clear the obstruction and install adequate warning boards to prevent further mishaps.
