Karwar: In a shocking incident in Ankola town of Uttara Kannada district, a local Congress leader, Gopalakrishna Nayak, was brutally attacked with knives by a group of unidentified assailants.
Nayak, the Congress leader, was targeted by six unknown men on Wednesday morning He had come out of a shaving saloon and proceeding towards his car it is said. According to preliminary information, the attackers arrived in a car registered in Goa, launched a sudden assault, and then sped away.
Naik suffered serious stab injuries to his stomach and head. Another person who was with him at the time was also stabbed during the attack.
Both the injured were immediately rushed to a private hospital in Ankola, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Doctors are closely monitoring their condition.
Soon after the incident, Uttara Kannada District Superintendent of Police Deepan visited the spot and inspected the area. Police teams have launched a manhunt for the attackers and are gathering leads from CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts.
A case has been registered at the Ankola police station, and investigations are underway to identify and nab those responsible.
This brazen attack has sent ripples of concern through political circles in the coastal district, with many demanding swift action to ensure the safety of public figures. Updates on the victims' health and the progress of the probe are expected in the coming hours. Police have tightened the security in the town.
