Karwar: Amid the festive cheer of Diwali, a tragic incident has cast a shadow over Karwar. On Sunday afternoon, a horrific head-on collision between a government transport bus and a scooty near Bandishitta in Karwar claimed the life of an elderly woman.
The deceased has been identified as Sushila Kamalakar Naik (65), a resident of Metriwada. She was traveling on a scooty with her husband from Shirwad towards Karwar when the accident occurred. A government transport bus from the Karwar depot, heading towards Kerodi, collided head-on with the scooty near Bandishitta. Sushila Naik sustained severe injuries and succumbed on the spot.
The accident caused a temporary halt in vehicular movement in the area. The festive spirit of Diwali was overshadowed by shock and grief among onlookers. The victim’s husband, Kamalakar Naik, sustained minor injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Local police visited the site, conducted an investigation, and have initiated further action.
The tragedy has left the communities of Metriwada and Bhandishitta in mourning, with locals expressing their grief over the loss of the elderly woman on a festive day.
