Karwar,: A fire incident was reported on saturday at the under-construction Kali Bridge site near Sadashivgad on National Highway- 66 in Karwar, Uttara Kannada district, resulting in the complete destruction of a temporary shed used by construction workers.
According to preliminary information, the blaze reportedly started when sparks generated during welding work landed on a nearby paint container. The fire spread rapidly to the tarpaulin-covered temporary shed, engulfing it within minutes.
Construction workers at the site immediately responded and managed to extinguish the flames before the fire could spread further. No injuries or loss of life were reported in the incident. However, materials stored inside the shed were damaged in the fire.
The Kali Bridge, which serves as a crucial link between Karwar and Goa, was damaged during heavy rainfall in August 2024. A new bridge is currently under construction, with piling and concrete works progressing at the site. The temporary shed had been erected to provide shelter for workers involved in the project.
The exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage have not yet been officially confirmed. Further details are awaited.
