Honnavar, July 21: A major fire accident destroyed a fishing boat at Donka in Kasarkod, Honnavar taluk of Uttara Kannada district, resulting in losses estimated at more than ₹30 lakh.
According to reports, the boat belonged to Ayub Saab and was anchored at the harbour for maintenance and repair work when the fire suddenly broke out. The flames spread rapidly and engulfed the vessel within minutes, reducing a large portion of the boat to ashes.
Local fishermen rushed to the scene immediately after noticing the fire and worked together to extinguish the blaze. Their timely response helped prevent the fire from spreading to nearby boats and averting a larger disaster at the harbour.
Officials visited the site to assess the damage and conduct a preliminary inspection. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown. A case has been registered under the jurisdiction of the Honnavar Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
