Five persons, including four schoolchildren, were injured when an Omni van ferrying students lost control and rammed into a parked Bolero vehicle near the old bus stand in Kumta on Saturday.
The incident occurred while students of Dr. A.V. Baliga English Medium School were being dropped home after school. According to police sources, the driver of the Omni van reportedly felt dizzy, leading to a loss of control and the subsequent collision with the Bolero that was stationed on the roadside.
Of the five students travelling in the van, four sustained injuries. The injured students have been identified as Tanishka (15), Advit (12), Arjun (13), and Ayira (10). All the children reportedly suffered minor injuries. The van driver, Jatti Parameshwar Mukri, also sustained injuries in the accident.
The impact of the collision left the Omni van badly damaged. Local residents, along with police personnel, rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the Kumta Government Hospital for treatment. Doctors have confirmed that the condition of all the injured is stable.
Kumta police visited the scene, conducted an inspection, and registered a case. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
