Ankola: Passengers travelling on a government bus from Ankola to Harwada had a narrow escape on Thursday morning when the vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a paddy field after its steering reportedly failed.
The incident occurred around 8.30 am as the bus was heading towards Harwada. The sudden loss of control triggered panic among the passengers, but fortunately, no one was injured in the mishap.
While the passengers escaped unharmed, the incident has sparked public anger over what is being described as continued negligence by the concerned departments. Local residents said they had repeatedly alerted authorities about technical issues in buses operating on this route and the lack of proper safety measures, but their complaints were allegedly ignored.
Parents and schoolchildren, who regularly depend on these buses for daily travel, have also raised concerns. They have urged the transport department to immediately review the condition and safety of buses used by students and take corrective steps before a more serious accident occurs.
