Lorry carrying gypsum overturns on NH-52 near Ankola; hits electric pole, driver and cleaner safe

Ankola, July 13: A truck transporting gypsum overturned after crashing into an electric pole on National Highway 52 near Adlur in the Agasur Gram Panchayat limits of Ankola taluk, Uttara Kannada district, on Monday.
According to preliminary information, the truck was carrying a load of gypsum from Kerala to Koppal. While passing through the Adlur stretch, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and collide with an electric pole before overturning.
Despite the severity of the accident, both the driver and the cleaner escaped without any life-threatening injuries.
The impact of the crash scattered the gypsum across the roadside and nearby area for nearly 50 meters, raising concerns among local residents about possible environmental contamination and public safety.
Police from Ankola Police Station reached the accident site soon after receiving information, conducted an inspection, and registered a case. Local residents have urged the concerned authorities to clear the spilled gypsum immediately to prevent any adverse impact on the environment and nearby public water sources.
