Karwar Medical Student Killed in Bike Crash in Goa; Second Student Critically Injure
KARWAR/GOA: A tragic road accident in the Polem area of Goa late on Monday night has claimed the life of a third-year medical student from Karwar Medical College and left another student in critical condition.
The deceased has been identified as Preetham, a 22-year-old resident of Chitradurga district, who was pursuing his MBBS at Karwar Medical College. According to police sources, Preetham and his friend had gone to Polem for dinner and were returning on a motorcycle when the accident occurred near Cloud 9 Hotel.
The bike reportedly lost control, resulting in Preetham sustaining fatal injuries. He was declared dead at the spot. The second student, also from the same college, suffered serious injuries and has been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition is said to be critical.
Local residents have strongly alleged that the absence of adequate street lighting on the highway stretch contributed to the tragedy. “The road is pitch dark at night. This is not the first accident here,” said a local shopkeeper, echoing widespread anger in the area. Community leaders and students have urged district authorities and the Goa government to install proper lighting and take immediate safety measures on the stretch.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the student community in Karwar. College authorities have expressed deep condolences and are coordinating with the family of the deceased.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
