Gokarna (Karnataka): A love story that blossomed across the seven seas found its eternal expression on the sacred soil of India as a Norwegian couple exchanged wedding vows in an authentic Vedic Hindu ceremony at Kudle Beach on Tuesday. The serene shores of Gokarna, one of India’s most revered spiritual destinations, bore witness to a rare and heartwarming intercultural marriage that blended Scandinavian romance with ancient Indian traditions.
Sam and Artima, hailing from Norway, stepped into marital bliss by taking the saptapadi (seven sacred steps) around the holy fire in the presence of a beautifully decorated mandap at Cafe Paradise Beach Resort on Kudle Beach. The couple, dressed in traditional Indian attire – the bride in a rich red saree and the groom in a sherwani and turban – looked radiant as Vedic mantras filled the air.

According to sources close to the couple, Sam has been a regular visitor to Gokarna for several years. Deeply enchanted by Indian philosophy, yoga, spirituality, and the warmth of local culture, Sam reportedly fell in love not only with Artima but also with the timeless beauty of Bharat’s heritage. “He always said that if he ever got married, it would be in India, in the most traditional way possible,” a friend of the couple shared. Gokarna, with its pristine beaches, ancient Mahabaleshwar temple, and tranquil spiritual vibe, became the natural choice for their dream wedding.
The entire ceremony was conducted strictly according to Vedic rites by four learned priests – Ve. Prasanna Jogbhatt, Ve. Mahesh Adi, Ve. Krishna Suri, and Ve. Vinayak Upadhya – who guided the couple through every ritual, from Kanyadaan and Mangalfera to Saptapadi. The rhythmic chanting of Sanskrit shlokas against the backdrop of crashing waves created an ethereal atmosphere that left everyone spellbound.
Murali Kamath, owner of Cafe Paradise Beach Resort, played a pivotal role in making this fairy-tale wedding possible. The Norwegian couple, deeply touched by Murali’s hospitality, warmth, and respect for Indian traditions over the years, specially invited him and his family to be part of their big day. “They have been coming here for years. When they told me they wanted to get married in our resort in full Indian style, I was overwhelmed,” Murali told reporters. “We decorated the venue with marigolds, mango leaves, and traditional lamps – everything was 100% desi.”
The wedding was attended by foreign tourists staying at the resort, local residents, and the entire Kamath family. Guests showered the newlyweds with flower petals and heartfelt blessings as the couple sought the blessings of Lord Shiva, the presiding deity of Gokarna.
Interestingly, Sam is a renowned in Norway as a master chef who specializes in fusion cuisine. Friends say his love for Indian spices and cooking techniques was another reason he felt so connected to this land.
As the sun dipped into the Arabian Sea, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, Sam and Artima took their final pheras, promising to walk together for seven lifetimes. For everyone present, it was more than just a wedding – it was a beautiful celebration of love transcending borders, cultures, and oceans.
