Karwar: A KSRTC bus narrowly avoided a major disaster when it suddenly caught fire while on the road in Uttara Kannada district.
The incident happened in the Mavalli Gram Panchayat area under Bhatkal taluk. The government bus was heading from Bhatkal towards Kumta when flames broke out from the underside of the vehicle.

Passengers reacted swiftly the moment they noticed the fire. They quickly got off the bus and moved to a safe distance. Local auto drivers and other commuters then jumped in to help extinguish the flames before the situation got worse.
Thankfully, no one was injured in the episode. It was sheer luck that a bigger tragedy was averted.
Firefighters from the local fire brigade soon reached the spot and completely doused the blaze. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
The prompt action by passengers and locals turned what could have been a serious accident into a story with a happy ending — everyone walked away safe.
