Karwar: A 17 year-old boy lost his life on Monday after he went too far into the sea for a holy dip during the Shivaratri festival and drowned at Bavala beach in Karwar taluk, Uttara Kannada district.
The deceased has been identified as Yash from Majali Gavageri. He had joined the celebrations for the Ramanatha Temple festival and stepped into the sea for the traditional Shivaratri bath along with others.
According to locals, Yash ventured quite a distance from the shore when he suddenly went under. People nearby rushed to help and managed to pull him out, but by the time they brought him back to the beach, he had already passed away.
A case has been registered at the Chittakula police station, and officers are investigating the incident.
