Ankola, July 28: The main road connecting Aversa and Harwada villages in Uttara Kannada's Ankola taluk continues to be submerged during every monsoon, leaving residents frustrated as the long-pending issue remains unresolved for the fifth consecutive year.
Stagnant rainwater on the road has made travel extremely risky for motorists, pedestrians, school and college students, and farmers. The route also serves as a vital link for people travelling to Ankola town and nearby hospitals during emergencies. According to local residents, several two-wheeler riders have slipped and suffered injuries as the road becomes completely hidden under floodwater.
Villagers said the issue has been repeatedly brought to the attention of the Aversa Gram Panchayat PDO, while the Harwada Gram Panchayat has also submitted representations over the past five years. However, they allege that officials visit the site during the rainy season, conduct inspections, and leave without implementing any permanent solution.
Residents have urged the district administration and the concerned departments to immediately take up road elevation, proper drainage works, and permanent repairs to prevent the recurring problem and ensure safe transportation for the public.
