Mundgod: In a shocking incident on Tuesday morning, a major fire broke out in Hunagund village, located in Mundagod taluk, following the explosion of an auto rickshaw's gas cylinder. The blast led to the complete destruction of the vehicle and significant damage to a nearby residence, resulting in substantial property losses estimated in lakhs of rupees.

The auto rickshaw, owned by local resident Veerabhadrapa Hadapad, was parked in front of his home when the cylinder suddenly exploded. Within moments, intense flames engulfed the vehicle, reducing it to ashes. The fire quickly spread to the adjacent house, partially damaging its structure and destroying various household items inside.
Alerted by the explosion, villagers promptly contacted the fire department. Firefighters from Mundagod arrived swiftly and, with the assistance of local residents, managed to bring the blaze under control. Thanks to the timely intervention, there were no casualties or injuries reported. However, the financial toll on the owners has been severe, with preliminary assessments pointing to extensive monetary losses.
Authorities, including police and fire officials, are investigating the cause of the explosion. Initial suspicions point to a technical malfunction in the cylinder. A case has been registered at the Mundgod police station, and the probe is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances and prevent future occurrences.
