Karwar: A daring attempt to dive into the waves at Mudaga beach in Karwar turned tragic, leaving a young man critically injured and the local community in shock. The incident has sparked warnings about the dangers of underestimating the sea's unpredictable nature.
The victim, identified as Rakshak Balegara, a 22-year-old local, lost control during a dive from the shore into the sea. Misjudging the water's depth, he struck his head on the sandy seabed, resulting in severe injuries to his neck and spine. The impact has left him completely paralyzed from the head to the chest, according to medical reports.
Rakshak was initially rushed to Karwar Civil Hospital before being transferred to Tejasvini Hospital in Mangaluru due to his critical condition. Hospital sources indicate possible damage to the throat, rendering him unable to consume food. His condition remains grave, and doctors are closely monitoring his recovery.
The incident, which occurred during what was meant to be an adventurous stunt, has cast a pall of grief over the community. Locals have expressed sorrow over the tragedy, emphasizing the need for caution. “The sea’s beauty is captivating, but its dangers must not be ignored,” said a resident, urging greater awareness among thrill-seekers.
