Kumta,(Uttara Kannada ): A shocking incident unfolded late Thursday night at the Hiregutti police checkpost in Kumta taluk when a goods-laden truck lost control and crashed directly into the checkpost.
The collision completely destroyed the checkpost, but miraculously, the police officers on duty escaped unharmed. According to locals, the officers narrowly avoided disaster, having moved just a few feet away moments before the truck struck. “If they had delayed by even a second, a horrific tragedy could have occurred,” eyewitnesses reported.
Villagers have attributed the accident to delayed roadwork by the IRB company and poor road maintenance. “The condition of the road is deteriorating day by day. Despite repeated appeals to the authorities, no action has been taken,” locals expressed their frustration.
The checkpost has been reduced to rubble, and the condition of the truck driver, along with the exact cause of the accident, is yet to be determined. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
