The driver has been identified as Siddaraju Ghorpade (34), a resident of Dharwad district. The truck first struck the well’s concrete parapet, which halted its fall and prevented it from plunging completely into the deep well — a factor that likely saved the driver’s life and averted a greater tragedy.
Local residents and passers-by rushed to the spot, pulled the injured driver from the cabin, and immediately shifted him to the Bhatkal Government Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
A case has been registered at the Bhatkal Rural Police Station, and investigation into the exact cause of the accident is underway.
