Sirsi: In a tragic incident on Sunday afternoon, two teenagers lost their lives after drowning in the Mastijaddi stream at Unchalli in Sirsi taluk.
The deceased have been identified as Madan Naik (17), a resident of Mastijaddi village, and Lohith Naik (19), a native of Honavar taluk. According to preliminary reports, the two had gone to the stream for swimming when they accidentally entered a deeper section and drowned.
On receiving information, teams from the police, fire and emergency services, and the Sri Marikamba Lifeguard team immediately rushed to the spot and initiated a search and rescue operation. After a challenging effort, the lifeguard team recovered the bodies from the water.
Members of the lifeguard team who participated in the operation included Gopal Gowda, Raju Madival, Pradeep Esale, Deepak Kanade, Darshan Kabbe, and others.
A case has been registered at the Rural Police Station, and further investigation into the incident is underway.
