A tragic road accident on NH 66 at Majali in Karwar taluk of Uttara Kannada district left two youths battling for survival on Thursday night.
According to police sources, the two youths were travelling on a motorcycle bearing registration number KA-19 HD 3868 when the accident occurred. Though the vehicle initially registered with Mangaluru RTO later its ownership was transferred to RTO office in Karwar, according to the documents. So it is suspected that the riders are from Karwar or Ankola taluk. Passersby noticed the severely injured riders lying in a pool of blood near the roadside and immediately alerted the Chittakula police.
PSI Parashuram and his team rushed to the spot without delay. With no time to waste, they shifted the injured youths in a police vehicle to the district hospital at Karwar later both were shifted to Bambolim Hospiotal in Goa. The condition of the two emains critical, doctors said.
The identities and addresses of both victims are yet to be confirmed, and police are working to establish who they are and inform their families.
Investigators are now trying to determine whether the motorcycle crashed into a roadside electric pole due to over-speeding or if the duo were hit by another vehicle in a possible hit-and-run case.
Chittakula police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
