Woman Eats Breakfast Inches from 14-ft King Cobra in Kumta

By The News Observer Desk,

Kumta (Uttara Kannada): A massive 14-foot King Cobra triggered panic in Mirjan village of Kumta taluk after it slithered into the house of Devdas Gunaga and hid right under the dining table – while his wife was calmly having her breakfast just inches away from the world’s longest venomous snake.

Miraculously, the elderly woman, who has limited mobility due to age-related ailments, remained completely unaware of the giant reptile hissing beneath the table. She continued eating without noticing the deadly visitor coiled near her feet. Devdas Gunaga, who had stepped out briefly after serving breakfast to his wife, heard a loud hissing sound from inside the house. Rushing back, he was stunned to see the huge King Cobra with its hood raised right next to his wife’s legs.

Fearing that any sudden movement could provoke the snake to strike, Devdas displayed remarkable presence of mind. Without alarming his wife, he calmly said, “Come outside, I need to talk to you for a minute,” and gently led her out of danger. Only after reaching safety did he reveal the terrifying sight – leaving his wife trembling in shock.

He immediately contacted renowned reptile expert and snake rescuer Pawan Naik. Within minutes, Pawan reached the spot, assessed the high-risk situation, and skillfully captured the approximately 14-foot-long King Cobra without causing harm to the snake or any person.

The massive reptile was later safely released deep inside a distant forest.

Local residents poured praise on Pawan Naik for his swift, brave, and professional rescue operation, calling it nothing short of lifesaving. King Cobra sightings, though rare in residential areas, are occasionally reported from the thickly forested regions of Uttara Kannada district.
