Honnavar (Uttara Kannada): A horrific road accident unfolded on Saturday evening in Honnavar taluk of Uttara Kannada district, claiming one life and leaving over ten others gravely injured.The incident occurred near Gerusoppa, at Sulimurki Cross, when a high-speed public transport bus collided with a car. The impact caused the bus to veer off the highway, overturn, and plunge into a deep roadside ditch.
One passenger died on the spot, while more than ten individuals from both the bus and the car sustained serious injuries. The bus, en route from Bengaluru to Bhatkal, reportedly struck the car at a sharp turn near Sulimurki Cross. The force of the collision sent the bus rolling off the road, leaving it completely mangled. Authorities confirmed that over 30 passengers were on board at the time of the accident.

Local residents and police immediately launched a rescue operation. More than five ambulances, including 108 emergency services, were deployed to transport the injured to Honnavar Government Hospital. District in-charge Minister Mankal Vaidya visited the hospital shortly after the incident, inquired about the condition of the injured, and directed officials to ensure prompt and proper medical treatment. The accident disrupted traffic on the highway for several hours. Police worked to clear the scene and restore normal flow of vehicles. A case has been registered at Honnavar Police Station to investigate the exact cause of the collision.
