Dandeli : A black panther entered a homestay at Hasanmala near Dandeli early Monday morning and killed an expensive German Shepherd dog, causing concern among local residents.
The incident occurred at Wildernest Jungle Homestay, owned by Youth Congress Constituency President Kareem Ghouse Khatib. The black panther reportedly entered the premises and attacked the German Shepherd, which had been brought from Serbia. The entire incident was captured on the homestay’s CCTV camera.
According to local residents, a lone black panther has been frequently spotted in Hasanmala and surrounding areas over the past few days. A few days earlier, the same panther was reportedly involved in the killing of a cow that had been tied inside a shed belonging to progressive young farmer Jyotiba Patil.
With repeated wildlife movement close to human habitations, residents are now worried about possible attacks on people. Locals have urged the Forest Department to take immediate measures to capture the animal by installing cages in the affected areas and to create awareness among villagers about safety precautions.
