Karwar: Following the massive explosion in Delhi, heightened security measures have been enforced across coastal regions. A high alert has been declared throughout the coastal belt, including Karwar in Uttara Kannada district.
The Coast Guard Police and Indian Coast Guard units, continuously patrolling the Arabian Sea, have further tightened security. Additional forces have been deployed to safeguard key installations in the Karwar area, including the Kadamba Naval Base, Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant, and major dams.
Strict checks have begun at the Goa-Karwar border, with every vehicle and passenger's documents being thoroughly verified.
Surveillance has been intensified on fishermen's boats, with identity documents of crew members on each vessel being scrutinized. Police have urged the public to immediately report any suspicious activity.
Amid the stepped-up security measures, police in Karwar and other coastal areas are maintaining intense vigilance.
A powerful explosion rocked the national capital yesterday evening, killing at least 14 people and injuring over 40 in a crowded market area in South Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar. The blast, which occurred around 6:45 PM, shattered shopfronts, flipped vehicles, and triggered panic across the city. Preliminary investigations point to a high-intensity improvised explosive device (IED), with forensic teams recovering traces of RDX. No group has claimed responsibility yet, but security agencies are probing possible links to cross-border terror modules.
In the wake of the attack — the deadliest in Delhi since the 2008 serial blasts — the Ministry of Home Affairs has directed all coastal states to go on maximum alert, fearing follow-up strikes or infiltration attempts via sea routes.

Following the directive, a high alert has been declared across Karnataka’s coastline, with special focus on Karwar in Uttara Kannada district — a strategically vital hub hosting Project Seabird, India’s largest naval base. The INS Kadamba, part of this mega naval infrastructure, is the only facility in the country capable of berthing aircraft carriers.
The region also safeguards the Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant, which generates 880 MW of electricity, and several major dams critical for irrigation and power supply. Any breach here could have national security implications.
The Indian Coast Guard and Coastal Police have intensified round-the-clock sea patrols in the Arabian Sea. High-speed interceptor boats are scanning fishing vessels and cargo movements within a 50-nautical-mile radius.
At the Goa-Karwar border, multi-layer checkpoints are operational. Every vehicle — from tourist buses to fish trucks — is being frisked, with Aadhaar-linked verification of drivers and passengers. Fishermen are now required to carry GPS-enabled transponders and report their sea routes in advance.
“Even a single suspicious boat will not be allowed near sensitive zones,” said a senior Coast Guard official.
Local police have issued public appeals via loudspeakers and social media, urging citizens to report unclaimed objects, unknown persons, or unusual drone activity immediately.
With intelligence inputs suggesting possible sleeper cells along the western coast, security forces are leaving nothing to chance. Residents in Karwar and surrounding areas have been asked to stay vigilant but not panic.
