Karwar: In a rare and striking sight, a leopard and its cub were spotted sitting calmly by the roadside in the forested stretch of Dandeli taluk in Dandeli, Uttara Kannada district.
The incident took place along the Ambika Nagar Power House road, where the wild pair was seen resting quietly near the edge of the road. Passersby, surprised by the unusual sight, captured the moment on their mobile phones. The video has since gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention.

Though the area falls within a forest zone, locals say it is uncommon to see a leopard and its cub so close to a busy roadway. The calm demeanor of the animals, especially with vehicles passing nearby, has both amazed and concerned residents.
Forest officials, who were alerted soon after the sighting, have urged motorists and the public to exercise extra caution while travelling along the route. They have particularly advised drivers to slow down during early morning and late night hours, when wildlife movement is more frequent. Authorities have also requested people not to stop unnecessarily in forest stretches or attempt to approach wild animals for photographs.
The Forest Department is closely monitoring the situation and has assured that necessary measures are being taken to ensure both public safety and the protection of wildlife in the region.
