Rising Wild-Animal Sightings in Uttara Kannada
Frequent wildlife appearances have been reported across Uttara Kannada in recent months, especially in forest-adjacent regions. Leopards, elephants, gaurs (Indian bison), and wild boars have been increasingly straying onto highways, village roads, and even residential outskirts.
Forest officials attribute the rise in sightings to:
- Increased movement of wildlife during night hours
- Shrinking forest corridors due to road expansion and habitation
- Seasonal migration patterns and search for food
Residents and travellers in forest belts such as Anashi, Kulgi, Kaiga, Joida, Castle Rock, and parts of Karwar have been urged to remain cautious, avoid stopping vehicles unnecessarily, and report any unusual wildlife movement to authorities.
More details are awaited from the Forest Department regarding the latest leopard sighting.
