Lokayukta Raids 8 Sub-Registrar Offices Simultaneously Over Marriage Certificate Sale Allegation
By The News Observer Desk,
Karwar, November 5: In a major crackdown on alleged corruption in marriage registrations, Lokayukta officials conducted simultaneous raids on eight sub-registrar offices across Uttara Kannada district on Wednesday morning.
The operations, which began at 11 AM, targeted offices in Karwar, Kumta, Sirsi, Siddapur, Haliyal, Joida, Yellapur, and Bhatkal. Teams are currently scrutinizing documents and records at these locations.
Led by Uttara Kannada Lokayukta SP Kumar Chandra, the raids are investigating cases involving the use of fake documents for marriage registrations and allegations of officials issuing certificates in exchange for bribes.
This action follows last month's Lokayukta raids on the Ankola and Honnavar offices, which uncovered multiple irregularities. The latest surprise raids on the remaining eight offices stem from persistent public complaints about widespread corruption in the marriage registration process.
