Karwar: The unrelenting rainfall in Uttara Kannada district shows no signs of abating, even as November sets in, leaving residents in distress and disrupting daily activities. The persistent downpour has caused widespread concern among locals, who are grappling with the challenges posed by the inclement weather.
Meanwhile, adverse weather conditions in the Arabian Sea, triggered by a low-pressure system, have severely impacted fishermen along the Karnataka coast. Strong winds and towering waves have made deep-sea fishing perilous, forcing many fishing boats to return to the safety of ports. Numerous vessels from Mangaluru, Malpe, and other coastal areas have anchored at Karwar port, with fishermen taking shelter on their boats, anxiously awaiting improved weather conditions.

Following a warning from the Meteorological Department, the Fisheries Department has imposed a two-day ban on deep-sea fishing. This restriction has further strained the already fragile financial situation of fishermen. Despite the new fishing season having begun three months ago, continuous weather disruptions have prevented them from carrying out regular fishing activities, plunging their livelihoods into uncertainty.
Caught in the wrath of nature, fishermen are now facing severe hardships. Many fear that if the situation persists, they may be forced to abandon fishing altogether. The combined impact of incessant rain and turbulent sea conditions has left both the general populace and the fishing community of Uttara Kannada reeling, with no immediate respite in sight.
