Karwar: A dramatic and nerve-wracking spectacle unfolded in Karwar city on Friday morning when two stray bulls engaged in a fierce fight at the busy Kodibag , bringing traffic to a standstill and sending pedestrians and commuters scrambling for safety.
The unexpected showdown began during peak morning hours and continued for over 15 minutes, turning the normally bustling stretch into a scene of panic and confusion. The bulls, locked horn to horn, charged at each other repeatedly, pausing only briefly before resuming the aggressive bout with renewed intensity. Each lull raised hopes among onlookers that the fight had ended, only for the animals to clash again moments later.

Several two-wheelers parked along the roadside suffered minor damage as the enraged animals moved unpredictably across the road. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, though the situation came dangerously close to causing harm. Shopkeepers hurriedly pulled down shutters, while pedestrians ran helter-skelter to avoid being caught in the melee.
Local residents and passersby attempted to intervene by throwing buckets of water on the bulls in an effort to separate them. However, the animals remained unheeded and continued fighting, seemingly oblivious to the crowd and the growing alarm around them. Traffic movement was disrupted for a considerable time until the bulls eventually moved away from the area.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing menace of stray cattle in Karwar city. Residents expressed strong concern over public safety, pointing out that such incidents have become increasingly frequent in recent months. “Today it was bulls, tomorrow it could be a much worse accident involving people,” said a local shopkeeper, demanding immediate action.
Citizens have urged the municipal authorities to take urgent and effective measures to control the stray cattle population, particularly in crowded urban and temple areas. Many stressed that timely intervention could prevent serious accidents and ensure the safety of both residents and visitors.
