Bhatkal: A 15-year-old boy tragically drowned in a pond in Asarakeri Jamburamatha village, Bhatkal taluk, while attempting to catch fish with friends on Friday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Shashidhar Yogesh Moger. According to preliminary information from the Bhatkal police, Shashidhar slipped and fell into the water around midday while fishing near the pond with school friends. He drowned almost immediately despite efforts to save him.
The boy’s elder brother, Balaji Yogesh Moger, filed a complaint at the Bhatkal police station, stating there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.
Upon learning of the tragedy, Minister Mankal Vaidya visited Bhatkal Taluk Hospital to console the grieving family. DySP Mahesh K. and police personnel also arrived at the scene to conduct an inspection.
A case has been registered at the Bhatkal Town Police Station. The boy’s parents and relatives were seen overcome with grief at the hospital, casting a pall of sorrow over the area.
