Ramanagar (Joida) : A shocking incident that unfolded on Sunday morning along the Ramanagara-Khanapur border has sparked widespread discussion across the region. Two elephants were found dead simultaneously in a paddy field after coming into contact with a live electric wire, authorities confirmed.
According to details, farmer Ganapati Gurav from Sulegali village in Khanapur taluk had installed a solar-powered fence around his field to protect crops from wild animals. However, early in the morning, a HESCOM (Hubli Electricity Supply Company) power line reportedly snapped and fell onto the fence, causing electricity to flow through it. At that precise moment, the two elephants, which had wandered into the area in search of food, touched the fence and died on the spot, locals reported.

Villagers were stunned upon witnessing the tragic scene, and within moments, news of the incident spread to neighboring areas. Khanapur forest officials rushed to the site upon learning of the event and conducted an immediate inspection.
However, controversy now surrounds the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
HESCOM officials stated: "The power line did not snap. The shock may have originated from the farmer's hut connection." In contrast, locals insist: "We personally saw the power line fall onto the solar fence."
Against this backdrop, with the precise cause of the elephants' deaths remaining unclear, the forest department has continued its investigation. The question is whether the elephants truly died from the solar fence or from another electrical source? Only Forest Officials and the Doctors who carried out the post-mortem of the Elephants can clear the doubt.
