Joida: Residents of Sisai-Diggi village in Joida taluk of Uttara Kannada district are facing severe hardship due to the absence of a proper footbridge across a stream that connects the village to nearby areas.
With no permanent bridge in place, villagers are forced to wade through the stream or rely on a temporary wooden footbridge for their daily commute. During the monsoon season, rising water levels make crossing extremely dangerous, leaving residents vulnerable and isolated.
School-going children are among the worst affected, as they have to risk their lives crossing the stream every day to attend classes. Parents have expressed concern over the safety of their children, especially when heavy rainfall causes the water level to rise rapidly.
The village also lacks a proper road network, creating additional difficulties for residents. During emergencies, transporting patients and accessing essential services becomes a major challenge. Villagers say that whenever rainfall intensifies, the area loses connectivity with the outside world.
The village falls under the constituency represented by senior legislator R.V. Deshpande. Residents have urged the government and elected representatives to take immediate action and construct a permanent footbridge and proper road connectivity to ensure safe transportation and improve living conditions in the village.
