Ankola, July 17: Three fishing boats sank after being caught in powerful sea currents at Sangamanala near Belekeri in Karnataka's Uttara Kannada district, resulting in losses estimated to be worth several lakhs of rupees.
The submerged boats belonged to Shripad Banavalikar, Ramachandra Kudthalkar, and Nilesh Jambalekar. The vessels were swept away by the force of the water, damaging fishing nets, engines, and other essential equipment onboard.
Soon after receiving information about the incident, local fishermen rushed to the spot and launched a challenging rescue operation. Using ropes and coordinated efforts, they worked for several hours before successfully pulling all three submerged boats back to the shore.
The incident has caused heavy financial losses to the affected fishermen. Local fishing communities have urged the government to provide immediate financial assistance and adequate compensation to the boat owners for the damage suffered.
